Gion Matsuri – Kyoto’s Biggest Festival (Part II: Events)

You’ve learned the history of the Gion Festival, so now it is time to put that knowledge to use! The Gion Festival is a very long one, lasting one whole month, so it gets difficult to keep track of all the different events taking place. Even though the main attractions of the Gion festival are the “Yama-boko-Junkou” on July 17th and the “Ato Matsuri” on July 24th, various festivities and functions are held throughout the month. Kyoto’s Gion Festival Part 1: History

If you make it down to Japan’s old capital of Kyoto in July, you are bound to be drawn into the festivities all around throughout the month for the grand festival of Gion. If you thought Kyoto’s Aoi Festival was a long and outstanding event, then wait till you have seen how the entire city goes all out for the entire month, regardless of how hot or rainy it might get, in order to celebrate the Gion Festival! Gion Festival is considered to be one of the three grand festivals of Japan, along-side the Tenjin Festival in Osaka and the Kanda Festival in Tokyo.

Year in Review: 2015

Wow, it’s been years since I properly wrote a post here…

Time to sum up what’s happened in the past 3-4 years.


2015

I had stopped posting after getting into a serious accident back in June. I had got hit by a car in Tokyo and the whole incident was pretty severe.  I was basically out of commission for half a year.  I lost a lot of motivation to do any extra-curriculars, including writing here. I did a few small posts after the incident but couldn’t find the motivation to continue after a while.  The accident happened at the end of my third year in Uni, which in Japan is a pretty important time for you.
