Japan is one of the countries that four beautiful seasons, all unique with different scenery and foods to go along with each. Personally, my favourite season in Japan is autumn because all covered leaves are absolutely stunning! There are many places in Japan to view these coloured leaves, but the old capital of Kyoto is one of the best places to go to if you want to see some gorgeous autumn foliage.
One thing I love about Japan is how the country is its ability to mix the traditional and the mordern together almost seamlessly. A perfect example of this mixture is readily apparent in the form of shrines, which can be found all throughout the country. Japan is home to literally thousands of gods and goddesses–generally known as kami (神)–many of which have at least one or two, if not many, shrines dedicated to them. You’ll never find a shortage of shrines in the country.
Traveling often comes with a hefty price tag, but Osaka breaks the mold, offering a wealth of experiences that are easy on the wallet. Nestled in the heart of the Kansai region, Osaka is brimming with free activities that are a testament to its vibrant culture and friendly atmosphere.

Travel does come with costs, but it doesn’t mean you can’t find experiences that don’t burn a hole in your pocket. Japan, brimming with incredible free things to do throughout the country, is no exception. Particularly in Kyoto, the city abounds with hidden gems and local favorites, that might be a challenge to locate without guidance. So, let’s delve into the plethora of exciting free activities you can partake in the charming city of Kyoto.
One of the most famous spots to visit in Kyoto, Japan is located just down the street from my mansion. Kinkaku-ji 「金閣寺」, also known as the [Temple of the] Golden Pavilion, is truly an amazingly breathtaking sight to see at least once in every season.
While I do not make a habit of making the 5-minute walk up to the temple often, seeing as how it is swarming with crowded tourists and there is an admissions fee, I do try to visit the place once every new season to take photographs for personal and business uses. Continue reading
